Rick Noriega Shows Cornyn Out Of Touch on Economy, Healthcare
Cornyn Summarizies His Positions Saying, “I Support the Status Quo”
Houston, Tex. – Rick Noriega delivered a strong debate performance, outlining his plan to get the economy back on track and contrasting his vision for change with John Cornyn’s status quo economic policies.
“Cornyn is a polished Washington politician, but he kept stumbling over his failed record and out-of-touch votes,” said Holly Shulman, Press Secretary. “Rick Noriega outlined his plans to get the economy back on track, make sure all Texans have access to quality affordable health care and make the United States energy self-sufficient.”
During the debate, Cornyn tried to side-step the essential question of whether Texas families are better off now then they were when Cornyn took office six years ago, but summed up his position pretty well when he said, “I support the status quo.”
“On every issue – the economy, health care, energy and gas prices – Texans know that they’re not better off than they were six years ago and they’re looking for leadership,” added Shulman.
Throughout the debate Cornyn distanced himself from his own record by obscuring the issues. Cornyn avoided explaining why he voted against health care for children six times, voted against renewable energy development and allowed Wall Street greed to run out of control.
“Cornyn is a creature of Washington, and it’s his special interest approach of the same old recycled policies of the past six years that have driven us into our current mess. Cornyn has no answers for how to move forward,” said Shulman.
This race has continued to gain momentum as we approach November. As voters learn about John Cornyn’s voting record, they come to realize that he is a creature of Washington special interest groups. Texans are increasingly frustrated with leaders who choose campaign contributions over the interests of working families.
With recent polls showing Noriega within striking distance of special interest-funded incumbent John Cornyn, tonight’s debate was critical to introduce Noriega’s vision and record of proven leadership to Texans across the state.
A second debate is scheduled for next Thursday in Dallas, sponsored by KERA. It will also air statewide on public televisions stations.
